Love that Postum!
Postum is a wheat/grain coffee substitute. When I was a child, my parents used to let me drink Postum while they had their coffee. I still love the taste of it--similar to coffee but unique. I enjoy it in the evening when it's too late for "real" coffee. I can purchase Postum in my local grocery store. I purchased the Postum from Amazon for my sister, who has moved to Tennessee where Postum is not available in the grocery store. She was ecstatic when she received the Postum I purchaed through Amazon.com.

Where did all the Postum go?!
Postum is great! It tastes good and has no caffeine! But none of the stores carry it anymore and everywhere online it is "out of stock, unknown when or if it will be available". What is going on?

Excellent in its own right
I have enjoyed Postum since drinking it with my grandmother as a small child. Yes I drink it sometimes instead of coffee, esp when I don't want coffee's diuretic effects, but it isn't a replacement for coffee. To rate it on its similarity to coffee is like giving camomile tea 3 stars for its dismal replacement value to Salada tea. Postum is a fullbodied tasty hot drink. It is slightly sweet, having molasses as one of the ingredients, and tastes excellent with bit of milk. As it is an instant beverage, it is fast and portable, easy to take with on a camping trip or to the office with no gear needed to brew it. Very satisfying late at night. Good with chocolate. Can also be put into a cup of hot milk. And unfortunately this month discontinued by its manufacturer, Kraft, after 113 years on the market.

Pero, Inka, Cafix review...
I bought a case of all three products, Inka, Pero and Cafix in order to compare them. Honestly? They are all the same, so go with whatever is the cheapest. I think I did like Cafix the best, but it may be a mental thing with the name at least sounding somewhat like Coffee. There is little difference in all three, they look identical with only tiny coloration differences. All by themselves they do not taste like coffee and if you are a black coffee drinker? Pass, because you will not be satisfied with the taste. It is very bland all by itself. BUT, if you like cream in your coffee? You won't even notice the difference between coffee and these products within a week or two you will forget you are not drinking coffee. I am PERFECTLY happy with all three products and will continue to drink them;I will choose by PRICE due to the very similar make of them all. The cans all read the same ingredient wise.

I Crave It Like Coffee!!!
I was a caffeine addict until it started to affect my health. By the doctor's orders, I backed off the caffeine. I went onto Amazon looking for decaf coffee, and I found Pero. WHAT A GREAT FIND!!! I now have several cups per day, but I don't feel guilty about it. It has 3 ingredients--barley, malted barley, and chicory. Maybe I am hooked on the chicory. Is that possible? I doubt it. Anyway, I swear this stuff tastes more like coffee every time I drink it. I have been tempted to play a practical joke with people at work by asking them to try my new "coffee". I'll bet I could fool many of them. I love Pero so much that I actually gave some to my Mom along with her chocolates for Mother's Day. Love live Pero!

Pero by mail
When Kraft quit making Postum we had to find an alternative - it was already an alternative to coffee, so this would be plan C. We explored every avenue we could find in our small town at all the local stores and on the internet. We found Pero on line and decided to stick our necks out to try a case of it. We have not been disappointed. We like it better than coffee. It is smooth with no bitterness. It mixes well with hot chocolate and tastes good straight and black if that's what you want. We will be buying more of it and some friends will be doing the same after they tasted it.

Review of Roastaroma, Cafix, Pero, and Postum
I recently gave up coffee and decided to try three different coffee substitutes: Roastaroma, Cafix, and Pero. Although Cafix tasted the most like real coffee (and it tastes *a lot* like real coffee), and all three products are pretty good, Roastaroma was my favorite.It is very similar to coffee, but it doesn't quite have the bitter bite of coffee. Those of you who are looking for that slight bitterness might prefer Cafix. Roastaroma actually reminds me a little bit of Mexican hot chocolate--the cinnamon and carob flavors come through pretty strongly in the drink, giving it a cinnamon-chocolatey flavor. I used to drink coffee to satisfy my sweet tooth on low calories. This drink totally fits the bill for this purpose.The Pero is pretty good, too. Skeptic's Choice!
Over the years I've bought and disposed of lots of coffee substitutes that were supposed to taste "just like coffee", but didn't. So, I was prepared to add this one to the compost too! I like my coffee strong, aromatic, and with an edge of bitterness. Could a drink made from roasted barley, rye, chicory and beet roots give me that? Well, as a natural-born skeptic, and generally immune to hype of any kind, I have to say that Cafix has become my afternoon and evening beverage of choice. Does Cafix taste "just like coffee"? No, because it isn't. But its aroma and flavor are as good as and better than some real coffee I've known. And what's more, it lets me sleep at night without the eight hour half-life of caffeine buzzing around in my being!

I recently decided to give up coffee, including decaf, for health reasons. I drank coffee all day long, sometimes making a second pot in the early afternoon. I enjoy drinking a warm beverage throughout the day and wanted to find something to replace coffee. I buy a lot of things from Amazon.com and decided to start my search there. I found a number of products to choose from, and after reading the reviews, I decided on these three: Cafix, Caf-Lib, and Dandy Blend.The first thing you must do when trying any coffee substitute is to set your expectations. The reviews I read said these products tasted like coffee. They do not taste like any coffee I have ever had. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but if you are expecting a coffee-like taste when you try one of these, you will be disappointed. That was my experience.
